F&B Train Kitchen Helper

The Kitchen Helper will report to the Sous Chef, Executive Chef and F&B Manager
Job Overview:
Kitchen Helpers prepare, heat and finish cooking simple food items, clear tables, clean kitchen areas, wash dishes, and perform various other activities to assist workers who prepare or serve food and beverages. They are employed by restaurants, cafés, hotels, fast food outlets, cafeterias, hospitals and other establishments.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Wash and peel vegetables and fruit.
- Wash worktables, cupboards, and kitchen appliances.
- Remove trash and clean kitchen garbage containers.
- Unpack and store supplies in refrigerators, cupboards, and other storage areas.
- Sweep and mop floors and perform other duties to assist cook and kitchen staff.
- Wash dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, and pans using dishwasher or by hand.
- Place dishes in storage area.
- Scour pots and pans and may clean and polish silverware.
- Help preparation of the stocks needed.
- Help food portioning meeting the standards by following recipes.
- Storing excess food at the correct temperature according to established standards to avoid spoilage.
- Preparing and assembling complete special meals for individual dishes, on the train ride excursions menu, and for customer patients according to standard recipes as instructed by Nutritionist/Dietician or Head Chef
- Ensuring that AHS food health and safety regulations are followed. Adheres to proper food handling, sanitation, and safety procedures; maintains temperature and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) logs as required.
- Participates in and/or contributes to programs, committees, or projects, training, designed to improve quality of service and employee productivity.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Some secondary school is usually required.
- On-the-job training is provided.
- WHIMIS
- The ability to follow recipes, work in a team, to stand for extended periods of time, multitasking.
- Movement into other occupations within food preparation and service, such as cook or waiter, is possible with further training and experience.
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Mossleigh, AB: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
